Genetic Test for Progression of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Full Title of Study
Genetic Research to Develop a Diagnostic Tool for the Progression of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS)
Purpose of Study
There is currently a genetic test that may help determine whether the spinal curve in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is more or less likely to progress to a stage that requires surgical intervention. The test is currently is available only to a small group of patients—specifically, Caucasian females between the ages of 9 and 13 years with minor curves between 10 and 25 degrees. The purpose of this study is to collect many samples from diverse groups of patients in order to make this test applicable to all ethnicities and both genders.
